Home About Us

Cecil Staples opened his first pharmacy near the corner of Highfield and St. George Streets in 1934 in the midst of the Great Depression.

Against these challenges, the young pharmacist and entrepreneur persevered. The outbreak of World War II in September 1939 brought a whole new set of challenges.

Not only were employees to staff the store hard to find but also, due to rationing, many items including confectionery and some medications were difficult to procure. With the influx of the city of 30,000 military personnel during these years, necessity dictated very long working hours for both employer and employees. The pharmacy was open from 7:30 am until midnight, extending to 1:00 am on weekends. One consolation for such long days was the soda fountain which made the store a social gathering place.

In 1950, a new building was constructed at 321 St. George St. and continues to be the site of the present pharmacy. Having inherited his father's entrepreneurial expertise, John Staples has led the evolution of the business to its present form:

- a full-service prescription pharmacy with blister packaging of medications where required,

- Specialty areas in herbals & homeopathics,

- An extensive array of European chocolate.

A dynamic informative website offers e-ordering of prescriptions.

John & Helen Staples invite you to come in to their unique store and experience the warm and friendly service of their knowledgeable and helpful staff. After 75 years in business, they hope to continue serving the Greater Moncton area for many years to come.

The exhilarating taste experience that is Côte d’Or began in 1883, when a Belgian chocolatier travelled to Africa in search of the finest cocoa in the world. The rich, flavourful beans he found proved to be the inspiration for a new level of confectionary delight.

The exquisite taste, aroma and silky texture made Côte d’Or the toast of Europe for more than a century – even earning it the title of the official supplier to the Belgian royal family. Now, these sumptuous delicacies are here for you to discover.
